first_imgRev. Zoe and colleagues believe that UP is not divisive, and shouldrun the country Four politicians, among them former presidential candidate, Reverend Hananniah Zoe, yesterday endorsed the presidential bid of Vice President Joseph N. Boakai, promising to go all out and fish for votes that would give a one round victory to Mr. Boakai in the ensuing October elections.Rev. Zoe, former presidential aspirant of the opposition Liberia Empowerment And Development Party (LEAD); Magnus Nian, former Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) director of finance committee; Valentine Sheaky, principal, Free Pentecostal Global Mission High School; and Byhewit Mohammed Dukuly, former chairman for the disbanded opposition National Union for Democratic Progress (NUDP) – Lofa branch, endorsed the Veep’s presidential bid at the ruling Unity Party (UP) headquarters in Congo Town, Monrovia. The four men’s decision comes barely a week after 19 senators endorsed Boakai’s presidential bid.For Mr. Nian, he not only endorsed Mr. Boakai, but also joined the UP, “because I have a specific message, that is: to deploy my God-given political propaganda machinery that would undo any party in opposition to Mr. Boakai.”For Mr. Sheaky, who had the crowd on their feet shouting mixed political slogans in unison, his pledge was unwavering, “because I will not only endorse Mr. Boakai, but to go all out and campaign on his behalf so that the party can give the opposition a one round knockout in October.”For Mr. Dukuly, who referred to Veep Boakai as his uncle, he expressed gratitude to many persons including some of his former political rivals that have so far endorsed Boakai’s political interest.“Having observed some activities of political parties for the past months, I can assure anyone including the very opposition members that we will rise up in the name of UP, Lofa solidarity and the agenda to develop the country, and defeat those who dare challenge us at the October polls,” Mr. Dukuly declared. In his endorsement statement, Rev. Zoe said Vice President Boakai so impacted his life that he finally decided to endorse his presidential bid.“The Boakai team is capable to cross the bridge of delayed developments, and no doubt, to vibrant prosperity through which every Liberian will have a part to contribute to the country’s growth and transformation,” Rev. Zoe told the gathering.Despite the fact that his turn to speak was characterized by intermittent political slogans, UP chairman Wilmot J.M. Paye assured a place in the party for those that crossed over.“You are joining a party with no class system, but one big family of highly committed and dedicated partisans who uphold nothing but Liberia’s agenda where every tribe is included,” he said.Rev. Zoe’s father, Manbiah Zoe, ended yesterday’s ceremony in a self-composed song backed by more political slogans.Partial view of Representatives who are supporting Boakai’s presidential bidHouse DefersIn a related development, “majority members of the House of Representatives” yesterday postponed their support to the presidential bid of the Vice President until Tuesday, May 23.Representative Prince Moye (Bong County District #2) told the Daily Observer that the lawmakers postponed the endorsement program with the intent to rally the support of many of their colleagues to get on the list of lawmakers who want to endorse Boakai’s presidential bid.“The endorsement program is postponed to Tuesday, May 23, and we hope to recruit about 40 of our colleagues,” Rep. Moye said.Share this:Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) – Advertisement –last_img read more
