Huskies beat Vipers 4-2 in home opener

first_imgFORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – It wasn’t the prettiest-ever start to a game, but the Fort St. John Huskies got ‘er done on Saturday night, winning their home opener against the Sexsmith Vipers. The Huskies continued their theme of peppering the opposing goalie with shots by outshooting the Vipers 43-31, with 23 shots in the first period alone. Nervousness about playing in front of the over 500-strong crowd got to the Huskies early, as the Vipers capitalized on an early powerplay to go up 1-0 1:40 into the first frame. After the Vipers took a few of their own penalties of their own, the Huskies finally got on the board courtesy of a Drew Fudger powerplay goal with 2:30 remaining in the first assisted by Jacob Lang and Jared Lowen.Going into the second, the Pups seemed to settle down a bit, continuing their offence with another 11 shots on net. Geoff Dick and Kyle Crawford both found the back of the net less than a minute apart, with Lowen assisting on both goals. Adam Bowie and Elias Thompson also helped on the goals. While the Vipers managed to come back to within one goal late in the second, the Huskies sealed the deal when Jarod and Jacob Lang teamed up to put one into the back of the empty Sexsmith net with just over one minute left in the third.- Advertisement -The Huskies are back on home ice on Friday night when they host the Grande Prairie County JDA Kings, before heading to Beaverlodge on Saturday night to take on the Blades.last_img read more

Top it with nuts and dried fruits for an extra dose of nutrition and flavour or when you want to turn it into a special dessert for parties or weddings. With the winter chill setting in, Rajawat brings out warming foods like dates, sesame and nuts. “A seasonal menu brings a lot of health benefits so if lighter foods, fresh salads and juices are good for the summers, winters are a time when you can use a lot of ghee and dried fruits and nuts that keep the body warm and free of winter ailments,” he says.advertisementFor winter weddings at the hotel, he makes dates and sesame ladoos which combine the warming properties of dates and sesame and the natural sugar from the dates. Singapore jails Indian for giving police false info

first_imgSingapore: An Indian national has been jailed for two weeks for falsely accusing two persons of forcing her into prostitution as she did not want her husband to find out how she was earning a living in Singapore. Kalaiselvi Murugiyan (24) made a police report last year claiming that a man and a woman had forced her to become a prostitute, The Straits Times reported on Tuesday. She pleaded guilty to giving false information to Police Inspector Mohamed Raffiq Mohamed Ishak of the Central Police Division. Also Read – Saudi Crown Prince Salman ‘snubbed’ Pak PM Imran, recalled his private jet from US: ReportCourt documents did not say what she was working as in Singapore. The court heard that Kalaiselvi went to the Rochor Neighbourhood Police Centre on November 1 last year to make a report. She was referred to the Central Police Division to have her statement recorded. The Specialised Crime Branch then investigated the case. Deputy Public Prosecutor Grace Goh told the court that Kalaiselvi lied to Inspector Raffiq while giving her statement at the Police Cantonment Complex on November 1. The man and woman were later arrested. Kalaiselvi owned up to her lies at around 2.30 pm the next day. Kalaiselvi, who was not represented by a lawyer, told District Judge Christopher Tan on Tuesday that she did not want to go to jail. She pleaded for forgiveness and said she had to take care of her family members in India. Before handing down the sentence, Judge Tan stressed that two persons had been falsely implicated and arrested as a result of her lies. “Valuable police resources were wasted,” he said. For giving false information to a police officer, Kalaiselvi could have been jailed for up to a year and fined up to SGD 5,000.last_img read more

Mediterranean Days on Water Information Systems

first_imgRabat – A gathering on Water Information Systems will take place at the Faculty of Sciences of Rabat, in order to prepare for the meeting scheduled for the 20 & 21 March 2014. The meeting will focus on Water Information Systems in the Mediterranean region.Obviously, water is the most vital natural resource for our own survival, thus preserving it is crucial. Achieving this objective requires more involvement from water users and those participating in the management of water resources by raising awareness and providing information about this resource. The key is the use of, Water Information System (WIS), which allows the following: the production, the collection, the archiving, the development, and the availability of data around this natural resource. What is a WIS? What’s its composing? How can we implement it? What are the available technologies required for such a system? What are the existing experiences in this area? And what would be the opportunities and at the same time the limits of development? The answer to these questions and many more will be given and explained by the Moroccan Association of Young Geometricians (MAYG) at the gathering organized under the theme of: “Water Information Systems: Innovations, Challenges and Prospects,” on Saturday, November 7th, 2013 at the Faculty of Sciences of Rabat, starting from 9am.It should be noted that the MAYG is organizing this gathering, not only for a better exchange, but also to pave the way for the International Congress “WIS Med’s Day” (Water Information System Med Day’s) set in 2014.last_img read more

Theres An 85 Percent Chance The Cubs Wont Win The World Series

That means there’s still an 85 percent chance that the Cubs won’t win it all. There are plenty of difference-making free agents that could help shift the odds back toward Chicago’s rivals before opening day, and the team still plays in the NL’s toughest division (it may be comforting for Cubs fans to know that according to SRS, the NL Central is still weaker than every AL division — or it may not). But for now, the Cubs are MLB’s best team — on paper, at least. It’s been a good week for the Chicago Cubs. On Tuesday, they swooped into the bidding on coveted second baseman Ben Zobrist and inked him to a four-year, $56 million deal. Then on Friday, news came that the Cubs had also agreed to an eight-year, $184 million contract with outfielder Jason Heyward, likely the best player on the free-agent market this winter. In conjunction with Chicago’s existing stable of young talent, the additions of Heyward and Zobrist have at least one well-known algorithm projecting them to be the best team in baseball next season. It wasn’t long ago that we wrote enthusiastically about the Cubs’ chances to snap their 108-year championship drought, only to see them swept in the NLCS. We don’t (completely) want to put the stink on them again, so we’ll be brief. FanGraphs’ depth charts call for Chicago’s roster to produce a collective 52.6 wins above replacement (WAR) in 2016. After adjusting things so that all of MLB has 2,430 total wins,181 wins per team for 30 teams. that roughly works out to a true-talent projection of 99 wins for the Cubs — a ridiculously high number. What does it mean for Chicago’s chances of breaking The Curse? According to the relationship between talent forecasts and World Series odds, which FiveThirtyEight editor-in-chief Nate Silver and I researched for a trade-deadline article earlier this year, a team with 99-win talent will win a championship about 15 percent of the time: read more
