Forward collision warning with collision mitigation braking, adaptive cruise control that works even in low-speed traffic, lane-keeping steering assist and road departure mitigation are all standard across the board. Like its MDX counterpart, the RDX is available with the A-Spec styling package. The RDX sports a 2.0-liter, turbocharged, four-cylinder engine. Output is stated at 273 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque, and it’s mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. The new RDX is built in East Liberty, Ohio. Honda PilotDropping down to seventh place for 2019 is the Honda Pilot. Like its two-row Passport sibling, the three-row Pilot offers parent-focused technology like Cabin Talk as well as myriad standard driver-assistance features through the Honda Sensing tech suite. Honda’s largest crossover offers up nearly 84 cubic feet of cargo space. Honda’s 3.5-liter V6 engine shows up again, making a serviceable 280 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. Antuan Goodwin/Roadshow The Chevrolet Blazer is adding a third engine option to its roster for the 2020 model year. According to Car and Driver, a 2.0-liter, turbocharged, four-cylinder engine will join the 2020 Blazer lineup, producing 230 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque.”We added the [2.0-liter engine] to the Blazer to offer customers more choice,” a Chevrolet spokesperson confirmed to Roadshow via email on Friday. This new powertrain looks to fit in nicely between the Blazer’s existing engines. The 2020 Blazer will still be available with a 193-horsepower, naturally aspirated, 2.5-liter I4 on base trims, and the upper-crust RS and Premier models will continue to use Chevy’s 308-horsepower, 3.6-liter V6. The 2.0T engine will be offered on the Blazer’s midtier 2LT and 3LT models, where it’ll be paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. Unlike the base 2.5-liter engine, which is offered exclusively with front-wheel drive, the 2.0-liter turbo-four will be available with a choice of front- or all-wheel drive.Another advantage of the 2.0T engine will likely be fuel economy, though official 2020 Blazer EPA numbers are not available just yet. For reference, the 2019 Blazer is rated at 24 miles per gallon combined with its 2.5-liter engine, and either 21 or 22 mpg combined with the V6 (the former with all-wheel drive, the latter with front). The 2020 Blazer will start rolling into Chevy dealers this fall, and we expect the 2.0T models to be priced around $35,000. 69 Photos SUVs Crossovers 2019 GMC Sierra Denali review: So close to greatness Share your voice 42 Photos 52 Photos 2019 Honda Ridgeline: The commuter’s pickup truck 2019 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison: A tougher off-roader Car Industry More From Roadshow Jeep CherokeeKeeping its top-of-the-list placement, the Jeep Cherokee is 2019’s most American-made car. Jeep With high trade tensions looming and increasing talk of tariffs, more and more consumers are looking to buy American. Cars.com has released its annual American Made Index, showcasing companies that use the most American-sourced parts and labor in their vehicles. The results may surprise you.Cars.com analyzed more than 100 US-built vehicles for five key data points: manufacturing location, parts sourcing, US employment, engine sourcing and transmission sourcing. You might think something like the Ford F-150 would top the list, but it drops from its No. 5 spot for 2018 and out of the top 10 completely. Even the first-place holder, the Jeep Cherokee, is a pretty global product. It’s a Jeep, sure, but that brand is part of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, an Italian-owned business.Cars.com surveyed 1,000 people and found that half are concerned about automotive import tariffs, with 41% saying they are unsure if tariffs would make them more likely to buy American. Either way, we’re big fans of all the vehicles on this list. These days, buying American doesn’t necessarily mean sticking with a US-based automaker. 2019 Honda Ridgeline review: Light duty, heavy punch General Motors Chevrolet Honda Jeep Acuralast_img read more

In A Close Mexican Presidential Race The Outcome Could Depend On Texas

first_img Share MICHAEL ZANUSSI/FLICKR (CC BY-NC-SA 2.0)Downtown Dallas. While Texans are gearing up to vote in the 2018 midterm elections, there’s another election coming up even sooner that could have huge implications – the Mexican presidential election. The election will be held on July 1. As Dallas Morning News border correspondent Alfredo Corchado reports, Mexicans living in Texas could play a big role in the outcome. Dallas has the second largest number of Mexicans in the U.S. registered to vote in the election – a record high of 50,000 people.“The total numbers are six times greater than the last election,” Corchado says.He says the Dallas voters, and those throughout the U.S., are important because it’s expected to be a very close race.“It’s going to be, I think, a crucial vote and people see this as a very important swing vote,” Corchado says.He says election years are extremely deadly and violent in Mexico because of what’s at stake.“An election is not just about voting for the next president,” he says, “but also who controls which distribution route, and obviously the ones that come through Texas are highly contested.”Written by Jen Rice.last_img read more

Steve Ballmer Aims to Reinvent Watching Sports on TV with Clippers CourtVision

first_img“What we want to do was require a machine to understand the game like a coach or a human did to augment the proper things,” said Rajiv Maheswaran, CEO and Co-Founder, Second Spectrum. His company is also exploring potential applications in other sports including soccer and hockey. The features are expected to be just the first of many that will be added to CourtVision in the coming months to increase the interactivity and visual flair of games. Some Clippers season ticket holders, for instance, will already get the chance to take part in a beta experience that will allow them to watch the game for a menu of seven different camera angles, or to forego the play-by-play commentary to listen instead to live sound inside the arena. Ballmer hopes the 1.0 version of CourtVision is the first of many iterations to a technology he hopes will have a transformative effect on sports broadcasting.“You can’t compare it to email or word processors,” he said at a pre-game press conference at the Clippers’ Staples Center home in Los Angeles, hearkening back to some of the innovations he helped make popular while at Microsoft. “But when you think about it from an entertainment perspective, it’s right up there.”Publicly available with today’s game, CourtVision can be accessed on devices that use iOs or Android via the Fox Sports mobile app for subscribers of pay-TV services in the Los Angeles market that carry the Fox Sports Prime Ticket channel, the exclusive TV home of the Clippers. Authenticated subscribers can also access CourtVision via FoxSportsGo.com.While the app is currently available for mobile and PC, it can ported over to the big screen via screen-casting technologies like Apple TV. Ballmer is hopeful connected TV devices will eventually provide access to the app itself.CourtVision is powered by a blend of artificial intelligence and augmented reality, two of the most buzzed-about tech trends today. Second Spectrum essentially created software that could be taught to understand the nuances of on-court action, to the point where the third version of CourtVision, “coach mode,” is capable of diagram the plays the athletes are executing seconds after they occur. While the AI component of CourtVision allows it to understand the game of basketball, the AR component powers its ability to project the “coach mode” diagram to appear on TV screens as if it on the floor of the court just inches away from the players they are charting. While not altogether different than other AR elements used sparingly in other sports like the virtual first-down marker in NFL games, CourtVision constantly fills up the screen with many such images. ×Actors Reveal Their Favorite Disney PrincessesSeveral actors, like Daisy Ridley, Awkwafina, Jeff Goldblum and Gina Rodriguez, reveal their favorite Disney princesses. He explored the possibilities of innovating everywhere from scripted entertainment to video games, but didn’t get far.Now as CEO of pro basketball’s Los Angeles Clippers, his dream is finally becoming a reality Wednesday when his team takes to the court for the opening game of the NBA season. After four years of development in partnership with an analytics firm, Second Spectrum, in which Ballmer is an investor, Clippers CourtVision will allow viewers to customize the game-watching experience with a range of visual bells and whistles far beyond the on-screen graphics on display in a typical televised sporting event.CourtVision (see video here) offers viewers three different alternatives as a supplement to the traditional broadcast ranging from “mascot mode,” which inserts fun animations like a lightning bolt that appears to electrify the actual backboard after a player makes a shot, to “player mode,” which could appeal to hardcore fans by projecting over player’s heads the probabilities they can hit a shot based on where they are on the court. The calculations are based on player statistics that change on a near-real-time basis. Popular on Variety last_img read more
